XBLA Games Won’t Transfer to Game Room

Game Room

With Microsoft's upcoming Game Room feature for Xbox Live members designed to replicate the feel of old-school arcades, you would think that would mean any old-school arcade games you already own on Xbox Live Arcade would carry over, wouldn't you? You would? Well you're wrong.

According to Game Informer, they spoke with a Microsoft representative who told them owning an Xbox Live Arcade game -- despite the word arcade being in the title -- won't allow you to play that game in your Game Room. Instead, if you really want to play that copy of Centipede in your virtual arcade, you'll have to re-purchase the specific Game Room version.

The reasoning, according to Microsoft, is that the XBLA versions of these games are "enhanced" re-releases, while the Game Room versions will be direct, untouched ports of the original titles. This is also why they'll cost less than most XBLA games as well, at 240 Microsoft points ($3) to own them on your 360 or PC, or 400 ($5) to own them on both.
